During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister is expected to discuss common objectives between Australia and the Solomon Islands including climate change and collective maritime security.
He is set to hold discussions with a range of the nation’s community leaders.
Marles is also expected to visit members of the Solomons International Assistance Force, comprised of Australian and Pacific service personnel, which works toward addressing the security needs of the region.
“I look forward to visiting Solomon Islands for the first time in my capacity as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“This visit will build on the longstanding partnership between our two nations, shaped by enduring connections, shared values and our joint efforts towards a secure and prosperous Pacific region.
“Our partnership is more important than ever. That is why we will continue to ensure Australia’s engagement across all sectors — including on jobs, health and security — is responsive to Solomon Islands’ needs and fit-for-purpose.”
