Over 500 guests gathered to celebrate the 21st birthday of the Defence Teaming Centre and congratulate the winners of the eighth annual defence industry awards.

The Defence Teaming Centre Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony, held in Adelaide, had special guests Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne and Chief of the Defence Force Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin AC in attendance.
The awards recognise companies and individuals who have significantly contributed to the development of Australian industry, while showing excellence in ethical behaviour, service and commitment to the defence industry.
In an indication of the soaring growth and development of the sector, the DTC said it received an unprecedented number of applications this year.
"The calibre of the applications received this year was astounding, the judges had an incredibly difficult task," said DTC chief executive Margot Forster.
Industry excellence was acknowledged in four categories:
- Outstanding Small to Medium Enterprise (SME): recognises an SME that has excelled in their engagement with the defence industry to build their capability and capacity to work in defence and has successfully increased their share of defence work;
- Innovator: recognises a company that has invested in research and development to produce innovative products and/or services that have contributed to building the capability of Australia’s defence industry;
- Employer of Choice: recognises a company that has demonstrated 'Employer of Choice’ practices by successfully supporting its workforce; and
- Young Achiever: recognises an outstanding young person who is motivated, ambitious and who has excelled in building their career in the defence industry.
West Australian company IKAD Engineering picked up the honour of Outstanding SME, Ultra Electronics secured Innovator, EY landed Employer of Choice and RedARC'S James Albrechtsen won Young Achiever.
The awards were judged by an independent panel.
Jack Mahoney, DTC chairman, also announced to guests that after eight years on the board he is stepping down at the next AGM to be held in November.
“My time on the board has been fantastic and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with and supporting industry over this time. I am very passionate about this industry and the vitally important role we play in supporting the capability of the Australian Defence Force and other defence forces throughout the world," Mahoney said.
The board has elected Darryl Mincham, managing director of Mincham Aviation, to the role of chair.
Darryl has been involved with DTC for many years, and has worked across all of the sub-committees.
"Darryl brings a great understanding and passion for the industry and together with CEO Margot Forster, will lead industry into the next phase of our journey," said Mahoney.
The board also welcomed head of industry engagement for Saab Australia Matt Opie.
