The US Congress was notified of the possible foreign military sale by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 15 August.
Under the sale, Germany has requested to buy up to 600 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement missiles, tools and test equipment, spare and repair parts, along with US government and contractor technical assistance, engineering, and logistics support services, launcher modification kits and MSE conversion kits.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe,” a statement published by the DSCA said.
“The proposed sale will improve Germany’s capability to meet current and future threats and increase the defensive capabilities of its military.
“It will support Germany’s goal of improving national and territorial defence as well as interoperability with US and NATO forces. Germany will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.
“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
“There will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this proposed sale.”
The prime contractor will be Lockheed Martin and implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to Germany.
