Toll was at the recent LandForces International Land Defence Exposition, as both a conference exhibitor as well as platinum sponsor of the Defence and Industry dinner.

Selected as “Prime Contractor of the Year” at the 2023 Australian Defence Industry Awards (ADIA), Toll have built a strong reputation as an experienced and trusted partner.

However, by their own admission they still have a challenge when it comes to the Defence industry understanding their full range of services, capabilities and expertise.

“Toll is well known as a logistics provider for warehousing and distribution capability. What we are not very well known for is that we are one of the largest Defence service contractors as well”, advises Perry Singh, President of Toll Government and Defence.

What services do Toll Government and Defence provide?

“We take 4 products to the market: Contingency and Sustainment, Aviation Services, Healthcare Logistics and Managed Services” advised Mr. Singh. “We also provide our partners with warehousing, distribution and logistics solutions across the globe.”

Within Contingency and Sustainment, the vision is to enable Government and Defence operational effects by providing logistics solutions that matter, wherever the need.

Toll provides cutting-edge approaches to future disaster planning and response. They’re experts in expeditionary logistics, which covers the planning, organising, and controlling of the movement and sustainment of forces and materiel to support government operations.

Within Managed Services, they strive to partner with clients and industry to provide security focused customised flexible solutions, while fostering a climate of innovation with integrity and excellence in all the do.

As prime contractors, they partner with clients and industry to deliver a range of services and integrated solutions to Government, Defence and Corporate sectors. They add value through end-to-end supply chain management, effective reform strategies and via their tailored and personal approach to account management. This includes relocation services, procurement and transport of commodities to Defence and specialised case management services.

Within Aviation, they are committed to remain as a trusted integrated aviation capability partner in support of critical services, and are a leader in Australian and regional aviation, specialising in crewed and uncrewed system operations and training.

With extensive experience in Government and Defence, including aeromedical, SAR, military support, policing, disaster response, firefighting, and utility operations, they understand the needs of first responders and the military.

Within Healthcare Logistics, Toll is a trusted partner providing healthcare specific supply chain and logistics solutions whilst delivering innovative, agile and technologically robust solutions customised to our customer needs.

Toll Healthcare provides integrated logistics solutions for the storage and distribution of a wide range of medical, pharmaceutical, biological and surgical products to hospitals, medical clinicians, pharmacies and patients across Australia. They provide reliable, patient first, quality assured logistics solutions that cater for time critical and high-value pharmaceutical products and medical devices.

Why was LandForces 2024 important?

LandForces 2024 was the largest Defence industry exposition ever held in Australia with over 900 exhibiting organisations from over 30 companies and upwards of 20,000 attendances over three days.

Perry Singh was clear as to why it presented such a great opportunity for his business. “As one of the largest Defence prime contractors in Australia, it's important to us to ensure that the market know the various services and capabilities we possess and how we can help them. LandForces is a great opportunity for us to network and engage, listen and learn, and to share our thoughts and expertise".

“We want to ensure that our capabilities are well presented to the market. We want to ensure that the market knows that we are postured to provide resilience in the supply chain. We can surge very quickly. We have a strong expeditionary logistics capability that allows us to provide support to various Defence forces, at short notice or in periods of desire.”

General Manager of Growth and Solutions, Jenine McCoach, reiterated the challenge the business is seeking to address and the opportunity the conference provided. “Some people don’t realise that Toll does more than trucks.”

“Our priority here today is to make sure that we talk to as many people as we can, and to tackle the challenge our business has around perception of what we do and how we can help. We’re not just that trucking company – we are so much more.”

Ms. McCoach was particularly interested in understanding the plans and projects across a wider range of stakeholders. “I’m also very eager to meet and work with state governments and curate a better understanding of what they’re trying to do within the Defence framework and how industry can fit in with that.”

General Manager of Contingency and Sustainment, Steve Roughsedge, was keen to explore networking possibilities and opening the channels of communication at the event. “A real highlight for me was the opportunity to meet people that we don’t often get the opportunity to do so. It presents an opportunity to bring everyone together and to have good conversations that can potentially lead us in new directions.”

“The primary reason for us being here is to communicate our brands, services and capabilities to our current and potential customer base. We’re trying to gain more exposure, understanding and awareness of what our verticals or divisions within Toll Government and Defence – and the broader Toll Group – can provide for our clients and the wider industry. Yes, we drive trucks. Sure, we have warehouses. Absolutely. But we do a whole lot more.”

Andrew Crowe, Toll Aviation Business Development Manager for Uncrewed Systems and Program Manager for the Toll Aviation V-BAT Program, was a guest speaker and presenter addressing the topic of Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) Capability to Support the Joint Force: V-BAT Supporting ADF Operations.

His presentation delved into the benefits of establishing a Joint UAS Capability to enhance procurement, training, and operational efficiencies, while also emphasising the contribution of Australian Defence industry suppliers in advancing UAS technologies. Additionally, Andrew highlighted Toll Aviation's innovative efforts to accelerate UAS integration through the V-BAT into Australian Skies Campaign.
