Defence prime Rheinmetall Defence Australia and not-for-profit veteran organisation Soldier On have partnered up in an effort to offer veterans defence industry employment.

The Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Program comprises several organisations and initiatives to help service personnel integrate into society, including the Industry Advisory Committee on Veteran’s Employment and Veteran’s Affairs.

To date, Soldier On have assisted current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to find jobs, education and training, mental health services and organised social activities for the personnel and their families.

Their most recent initiative, the Veteran and Family Support Program, aims to provide veterans and their families with support and opportunities to build a successful future post-service.

Soldier On chief executive and co-founder John Bale said this partnership between Soldier On and Rheinmetall is an exciting development for veterans and families.

“Our modern veterans are highly trained and professional, and this partnership between Rheinmetall and Soldier On is about recognising those remarkable qualities and providing them with fitting employment opportunities,” Mr Bale said.

“This is an exciting development for veterans and their families, and perhaps the most meaningful way we can genuinely pay respect and thanks to them for serving our nation.”

“Rheinmetall truly recognises and values the skills that ex-service men and women, and their families, bring to the Australian workforce,” said Rheinmetall Defence Australia and New Zealand managing director Andrew Fletcher.

“We are looking forward to working with Soldier On and providing Australian veterans with greater access to employment opportunities within the Rheinmetall family.”

Rheinmetall currently employs veterans across its various Australian and global divisions.

“In 2017, we will be working with Soldier On to identify career development opportunities and seek to employ ex-service men and women with suitable skill sets in areas such as vehicle systems and electronic solutions,” Fletcher said.

“This partnership symbolises Rheinmetall’s commitment to directly supporting these brave men and women. No one should face disadvantage in attaining employment, especially those who have fought for and served our nation.”
