Northrop Grumman has been chosen as the prime contractor to deliver nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) aircraft for the US Navy’s Take Charge And Move Out (TACAMO) mission.

Northrop Grumman has been chosen as the prime contractor to deliver nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) aircraft for the US Navy’s Take Charge And Move Out (TACAMO) mission.

The company will lead an industry team to develop and deliver the E-130J aircraft, which will replace the US Navy’s current E-6B Mercury fleet for this essential mission.

Leveraging its advanced digital engineering and manufacturing capabilities, Northrop Grumman will rapidly design, build, test, and sustain the E-130J.

As a longstanding partner of the US Navy, the company has extensive experience as a prime contractor, including work on the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, MQ-4C Triton, and support for the current E-6B Mercury TACAMO fleet.

Jane Bishop, vice president and general manager of global surveillance division at Northrop Grumman: “Our performance on Navy programs like the E-2D and E-6B prove we deliver on what we promise, and we will bring this expertise in helping the Navy deliver the E-130J on time and optimised for this strategically important mission.”

This effort will draw on Northrop Grumman’s expertise in advanced manufacturing, agile design, digital engineering, and weapon system integration to ensure Day One readiness across the team.

The TACAMO mission serves as a critical link between the National Command Authority and US nuclear forces, providing survivable, reliable, and enduring airborne command and control. The new E-130J will modernise and enhance this vital strategic deterrent capability.

Northrop Grumman’s TACAMO industry team includes Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, Raytheon, Crescent Systems, and Long Wave, all of which bring deep expertise in delivering command and control systems and nuclear enterprise solutions to meet the Navy’s E-130J requirements.

Northrop Grumman is a leading global aerospace and defence technology company.
