The parliamentary standing committee on public works has launched multiple inquiries into Defence projects totalling $284.6 million.

The committee will inquire into three proposals from Defence:
- The infrastructure project JP 157 for the replacement of aviation refeuelling vehicles infrastructure, valued at $40.4 million;
- The Maritime Operational Support Capability (MOSC) Facilities project valued at $220.5 million; and
- The Engine Test Cell 1 Upgrade at RAAF Base Amberley valued at $23.7 million.
All inquiries are expected to take place in January and February next year.
The JP 157 infrastructure project will deliver new and upgraded facilities to support the replacement and future aviation refuelling fleets. The Department of Defence has proposed to undertake a range of works across 15 sites ranging from bunding works, fuel treatment system works, shelters, hardstand and access works, fencing and contamination works as required.
The purpose of Defence's proposal for the Maritime Operational Support Capability (MOSC) Facilities project is to provide fit for purpose facilities and infrastructure at HMAS Stirling, Garden Island Defence Precinct and Randwick Barracks to support the MOSC vessels that will be replacing the current in-service vessels Sirius and Success. One MOSC vessel will be based on the east coast at Garden Island Defence Precinct and one on the west coast at HMAS Stirling. Defence said it is proposing suitable facilities and support infrastructure at Stirling, Garden Island Defence Precinct and Randwick Barracks, including operational, maintenance and training support.
Defence's proposal for the Engine Test Cell 1 Upgrade at RAAF Base Amberley is to establish a fit-for-purpose engine test facility that satisfies both the ongoing Super Hornet and Growler, and the new F-35 engine testing needs.
The engine test facility at RAAF Base Amberley is Australia’s largest fast jet engine test facility and this project will extend the existing functionality to enable efficient kitting and testing of the Super Hornet, Growler and F-35 engines.
Submissions for all three inquiries close on 25 January 2018.
