December - Editor's Pick

When the White Paper was released back in February, it was clear that 2016 was going to be a busy year for Defence and the industry as a whole. To cap it off, December was filled with announcements, launches, breaking news stories and industry events.

When the White Paper was released back in February, it was clear that 2016 was going to be a busy year for Defence and the industry as a whole. To cap it off, December was filled with announcements, launches, breaking news stories and industry events.

Here are my December picks for "stories of the month" based on readership, engagement and the feedback we received.

1) CDIC a gamechanger for academics, startups

==============

This article about the ways the newly launched CDIC would give researchers an 'endgame' gained a lot of interest from academia and various members of government.

2) PODCAST: Plan Jericho open for business

Our 2nd episode of the Defence Connect Podcast was with Group Captain Pete Mitchell, RAAF. The podcast covered the genesis of Plan Jericho - the RAAF's evolution into a 5th generation fighting force. It attracted a lot of attention from industry and the government. My inbox was inundated with positive feedback after we released this episode.

3) PODCAST: CDIC opens front door to Defence

Another podcast, but our third episode of the Defence Connect Podcast was an interview with Kate Louis, First Assistant Secretary Defence Industry Policy Division. This podcast was (and still is) our 'most downloads' and 'most listens' record holder, just ahead of the Plan Jericho episode. Again, this episode gained a lot of positive feedback.

4) CDIC business advisory service to benefit SMEs

No real surprises that again, the CDIC launch and all the services it offers industry would be a talking point for December. This article generated the most comments on the site and the most emails we received about an article.

5) Nanotechnology brings new light to night vision

Australia has a reputation for creating breakthroughs, innovative products and ideas. This article broke the story about how researchers at the Australian National University 'accidentally' discovered a revolutionary night vision aid.

From everyone here at Defence Connect, we wish you and your families a very happy holiday season and all the best for 2017.
