Minister Pyne, speaking at H.I. Fraser’s offices at Warriewood in Sydney, noted that previous governments had relied heavily on purchasing equipment from overseas vendors.
“Of course our number one priority is providing the equipment and the platforms the Navy, the Air Force, the Army and cyber security arms need to defend our nation, to project our power, to be a good ally to the United States and our friends around the world,” Minister Pyne said.
“But critically, the difference in the Turnbull government is that we’re not going to simply send that money overseas to other companies.
“H.I. Fraser is a great example of the capability that exists in Australia that we want to turbo charge.”
Minister Pyne had just received the millionth coupling H.I. Fraser manufactured for the Collins Class submarines and taken a tour of the facilities with general manager, Chris Williams, and local member for Mackellar, Jason Falinski.
In late 2016, H.I. Fraser was recognised as the only Australian SME to be listed as a collaborator for the JSF maintenance and overhaul projects in Australia.
Falinksi said H.I Fraser has been a strong defence business in his electorate for years.
“H.I. Fraser has been operating in Australia for 60 years and employ 45 people here in Sydney; I congratulate them on this great milestone,” he said.
“They are yet another example of high-end manufacturing that proves global competitiveness and being locally based are not mutually exclusive. I look forward to working with H.I. Fraser to lend my support so they can continue to maximise the opportunities for skilled employment in our area.”
