The forum is aiming to have Defence, NSW universities and industry gather, network and co-ordinate their collective capabilities in order to address critical national defence priorities.
According to the Defence Industry Policy Statement, “[The government is] fostering a new approach to innovation through closer collaboration between Defence, industry and research organisations to jointly develop game-changing innovation and commercialisation opportunities.”
“Together our small, medium and large enterprises, along with Australian research institutions and academics, have a track record of producing some of the world’s most innovative defence technologies,” the statement says.
SADIG represents an impressive array of local and international Aerospace and Defence organisations within the greater Sydney region and HunterNet is a network of manufacturing, engineering and specialist services companies located in the Hunter and Central Coast regions of NSW.
NSW is home to the largest number of Defence bases and facilities in Australia with approximately 30,000 jobs servicing the defence industry.
As outlined in the National Innovation and Science Agenda, NSW is hoping to stimulate economic activity by enabling unprecedented investments in Defence R&D, capability and infrastructure.
The NSW Collaboration for Defence event is being held on 15 February at the Aerial UTS Function Centre.
