Defence technology and innovation company Lockheed Martin Australia has announced its ongoing commitment to the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) for a further three years.

The NYSF is an Australian not-for-profit focused on providing young people with opportunities to learn more about the possibilities for future study and careers if they continue to pursue science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects after school.
The flagship program is the NYSF Year 12 Program, which runs in January each year for students about to enter year 12. Since 1984, more than 11,500 young Australians have progressed through the NYSF Year 12 Program (including those run under the organisation’s previous banner, the National Science Summer School).
“NYSF plays a vital role in inspiring the future STEM professionals Australia will need to ensure we can compete globally and protect our national interests. We are proud to continue our support of the NYSF and continue to play our part to expand the horizons of potentially thousands of young Australians from every state and territory – including young men and women from diverse backgrounds, living in both urban and remote areas,” said Lockheed Martin Australia chief executive Vince Di Pietro AM CSC.
Speaking at an NYSF Next Step program visit to the state-of-the-art Lockheed Martin Endeavour Centre in Canberra on Tuesday, Di Pietro acknowledged the significant impact of the NYSF program, particularly for young women and for young people in regional communities.
NYSF chairman Andrew Metcalfe AO welcomed Lockheed Martin Australia’s renewed partnership commitment as the NYSF celebrates 35 years of continuous delivery of its flagship Year 12 Program.
Metcalfe said “Companies such as Lockheed Martin Australia are leading the way in supporting Australia’s youth to be well informed about their study and career options in science, technology and engineering fields through its support of the NYSF Year 12 Program.”
Lockheed Martin Australia understands the vision of NYSF and shares the passion for educating and inspiring tomorrow’s scientists, engineers and mathematicians. Support from Lockheed Martin Australia enables NYSF to deliver quality programs and reach young Australians who are keen to invest in their future and understand their study and career options in STEM.
The NYSF enjoys relationships with a number of partners, including Lockheed Martin, founding partner Rotary International and host universities the Australian National University and University of Queensland as of 2018.
In addition to these main partnerships, the NYSF receives support from a range of corporate, research and university partners that contribute to resourcing the gap between the fee paid by participants in the NYSF programs and the actual cost of delivering the NYSF programs.
Beyond financial support, these partnerships provide students with information, access and insights into the worlds of tertiary study, research and the many employment opportunities and career pathways that are evolving in a rapidly changing society. Many alumni go on to study at and work for these organisations.
The support from these organisations is essential to the sustainability of the NYSF and the ability to meet their mission of delivering transformative STEM experiences to young Australians.
