Defence Connect and Momentum Media are calling for nominations as part of the inaugural inclusion of defence businesses in the Optus My Business Awards, the longest-standing business awards benchmarking the success of the best business operators.

The Optus My Business Awards is a prestigious national awards program recognising the best small and medium-sized businesses from across Australia.
The main criteria is 'Importance of SMEs in defence industry', SMEs provide Australia's defence industry with incredible opportunities and flexibility in the modern business environment.
Australian defence SMEs in particular are proving their value in key local and global projects, like the $5.2 billion LAND 400 Phase 2 project, the global F-35 supply chain and the $35 billion SEA 5000 Future Frigate program, through innovative developments in advanced manufacturing, training and service solutions providing immense economic value both locally and globally.
The Defence Business of the Year award, a new addition to the 2018 line-up, recognises the defence business that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and driven demonstrable business growth.
It includes all defence-related manufacturing, technology, transportation, training and education, media and communications businesses.
To be eligible for this award, the business needs to have 200 or fewer permanent employees as of 30 June 2018 and must be registered in Australia (or respective state/territory) as a sole trader, a partnership, or an incorporated or listed business.
It is open to all businesses that have been trading for at least two full financial years and is based on the period of the 2018 financial year. To be eligible for this award, at least 50 per cent of the manufacturing of the product must have taken place within Australia over the 2018 financial year.
