Schiebel, a market leader in vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial systems (UAS), has founded Schiebel Pacific (SPL) to provide the Pacific region with a permanent and comprehensive program, logistics and sales hub.

The Schiebel Group, with already established Defence contracts in the region, sees considerable further potential in Australia and in the region at large.
Hans Georg Schiebel, chairman of the Schiebel Group, said, "Establishing a permanent base in Australia, managed and run by Australians, is a logical next step for Schiebel as the Pacific region is of significant strategic interest to us."
Strategically located between Canberra and Sydney in the Shoalhaven, NSW, SPL is perfectly positioned to support and service existing contracts as well as to provide a base for continued growth.
This new additional Schiebel company is an essential step to supporting and contributing to local industry, both in the civil and defence sectors, and as such bringing jobs and revenue to the region in the fast growing market or robotics.
"We already have a strong working relationship with customers in the area and are committed to growing our footprint, delivering outstanding support for our current contracts, providing end-to-end servicing to potential clients, and backing local value creation," Schiebel said.
Schiebel won a contract with the Royal Australian Navy in 2017 to supply 100 Camcopter S-100 unmanned helicopters and three years of logistics support. The VTOL UAS requires no prepared area or supporting equipment to enable launch and recovery. It operates in day and night, under adverse weather conditions, with a beyond line-of-sight capability out to 200 kilometres, over land and sea. Its carbon fibre and titanium fuselage provides capacity for a wide range of payload/endurance combinations up to a service ceiling of 18,000 feet.
In a typical configuration, the CAMCOPTER S-100 carries a 34 kilogram payload up to 10 hours and is powered with Avgas or JP-5 heavy fuel. High-definition payload imagery is transmitted to the control station in real time. In addition to its standard GPS waypoint or manual navigation, the S-100 can successfully operate in environments where GPS is not available, with missions planned and controlled via a simple point-and-click graphical user interface.
Founded in 1951, the Vienna-based Schiebel Group focuses on the development, testing and production of state-of-the-art mine detection equipment and the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAS.
