Thales has used the Indo Defence 2018 Expo to demonstrate a number of the company’s key products, including Australian made systems across the full spectrum of domains for the Indonesian Defence Force.

In Indonesia, Thales works closely with key Indonesian partners (PT LEN, PT PINDAD, PT PAL, PT DSN) in the fields of air defence radars, military vehicles, shipborne combat management systems, above-water systems and maritime surveillance.
Thales showcased a wide array of products from across the Thales group, including:
- Starstreak, LMM and NLAW missiles from Thales UK;
- NS100 radar from Thales Netherlands;
- Land solutions with Optronics (Sophie and RODVE), SANCA vehicle (collaboration with PT PINDAD on an Indonesian Mine Resistant Armored Vehicle), munitions, rockets and fuses from Thales France, Canada, Belgium, Australia and Germany;
- GM200 and GM400 radars; and
- Communications for land/air and naval forces.
Thales also had a key speaking role in the Indo Marine Forum, a closed-door forum bringing together over 200 key stakeholders in the Indonesian defence industry, including the Chief of Navy and Minister of Defence.
The Indo Marine Forum focused on the theme of 'Regional Stability through the Development of National Maritime Capability and Maritime Security Cooperation'. Erik-Jan Raatgerink, country director for Thales in Indonesia, spoke about Thales’ continued support helping modernise the Navy and in making Indonesia a regional naval power by proposing a complete portfolio of mission systems in air, surface and underwater domains.
Team Defence Australia (TDA) spearheaded the Australian contingent at the Indo Defence 2018 Expo. The TDA Pavilion covered 161.5 square metres with an open plan design to accommodate a large delegation of Australian companies.
Indonesia is Australia's second largest market for defence exports. The growing need for the Indonesian armed forces to update their equipment and systems presents a significant opportunity for Australian defence industry companies.
The Defence Export Strategy has identified the Indo-Pacific region as one of the priority markets for Australian defence exports. TDA was joined by key stakeholders and partners, including:
- Centre for Defence Industry Capability;
- Australian Defence Export Office;
- All state/territory governments;
- Global Supply Chain primes;
- Australian Defence staff;
- Australian Trade and Investment Commission; and
- Australian embassy, Jakarta.
Indo Defence covers the complete defence spectrum, including airborne, land-based and sea-based platforms, systems and equipment. The event brings together key decision makers from the various defence authorities and companies in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.
The Indo Defence 2018 event will showcase leading-edge capabilities in sophisticated weapons systems and technologies, hardware and electronic warfare, training, simulation systems, defence and security peripherals.
Held biannually, the exhibition brings together around 850 exhibitors from over 40 countries, offering capabilities and innovation for the defence and security sector.
