Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said Defence welcome events are a great opportunity for military families to meet each other and get to know their local area, especially if they have recently posted to a new location.
Hosted by Defence Community Organisation, more than 20 welcome events will showcase local community and government services, and provide information about education, recreation and support services available in the local area.
"These events provide ADF families with information to help them settle into their community, as well as a host of activities for the kids like face painting, jumping castles, petting zoos and more," Minister Chester said.
The program of welcome events runs for almost two months throughout February and early March on or near Defence locations across Australia.
"Defence Community Organisation offers a range of programs and services to help ADF families manage the challenges and opportunities of military life," Minister Chester added.
Defence Community Organisation provides a range of services for defence personnel and their families, including:
- Deployment support for service personnel and family members;
- Spousal/partner support for partners and spouses of serving members;
- Moving and relocation support;
- Child support; and
- Parents and family support.
"Whether they’re single or have posted with their families, ADF members are welcome to come along with their parents, partner, siblings or kids," Minister Chester said.
