Bean received the award in recognition of his contribution to Australia's defence industry, after being judged by a panel of Defence professionals as demonstrating “exceptional talent, leadership and professionalism and future leader in the defence industry”.
“It was rewarding to be recognised by the Australian Industry and Defence Network (AIDN National) after only working in the industry for two years,” Bean said.
“My hope after receiving this award is that more talented industrial and digital designers will see that there are opportunities for them in the defence industry.”
Bean was unable to accept the award in person as he is currently in field trials with a Tier 1 European military organisation, but the former Knox Grammar School and University of Technology Sydney student said he was “thrilled” to receive the award.
Lester Sutton, AIDN National chairman, said, “The future of the defence industry [is] in safe hands with some of the young emerging talent.”
“These fine young Australians are the key to our future,” Sutton said.
“Angus, along with the other nominees, have shown incredible commitment to their work and are making a great impact across the sector. Recognising their achievements is pivotal and that is what we are looking to achieve through the AIDN National Young Achiever Award.”
The DroneShield VP's work on drone detection development and drone countermeasures is “borne from a design mindset rather than a strict engineering program”.
“The design process is a powerful tool used to see a project holistically and maintain the focus on the best possible outcome for the end user,” Bean said.
“Making technology more comfortable and easier to be used correctly is key to an industry that is seeing a rapid increase in new and emerging technology. The defence industry is a pioneer of the most advanced technologies we have.”
Bean is also heavily involved with spreading awareness of the drone industry in Australia and overseas.
