The 2019 Australian International Airshow has taken flight, and the Victorian government is excited for the boost it will bring to local tourism as well as being able to showcase the best of the state’s defence and technology industries.

Over 200,000 visitors are expected to come through the Avalon Airshow, regarded as "the most comprehensive defence and aerospace event in the southern hemisphere".
"The airshow is a great opportunity to showcase Victoria's world-class expertise in defence, aviation and aerospace to the world, attracting new investments, creating more local jobs and encouraging our brightest minds to consider a career path in these exciting industries," said Minister for Jobs, Innovation and Trade Martin Pakula.
"We're proud to support the airshow not only to promote our defence sector, but to give a major boost to the local economy, with thousands of visitors coming through the Geelong region next week."
For the first time, the government's airshow pavilion will focus on skills and careers in space-related industries, featuring 28 exhibitors encouraging Victoria's "best and brightest minds to reach for the stars".
The defence sector contributes around $8 billion to Victoria's economy annually, with about 18,500 people employed by 770 businesses that manufacture equipment and provide services for defence activities.
Earlier this month, renowned industry and government defence expert John O'Callaghan was appointed as the new Victorian defence industry advocate to "champion Victoria's defence capabilities here and overseas".
The Aerospace and Defence Exposition runs for three industry-only days from today to Thursday, with the Airshow opening to the public from 2:00pm AEDT on Friday, 1 March.

In the second of our series of webcasts, the panel of specialists will consider the impact of introducing a range of autonomous aerial systems with the ADF. With a special focus on the Triton high-altitude, long-endurance UAS, among other things.
The panel will also address the implications of UAS capabilities across key areas, including:
- Impact of UAS on RAAF CONOPS, including coalition operations; and
- The implications and opportunities for Australian industry of emergent autonomous technologies used in Australia and abroad.
