A new awards program backed by Defence Connect has been revealed, ushering in a new era of recognition and acknowledgement for Australia’s rapidly growing defence industry.

To be held in September at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra, the Australian Defence Industry awards – supported by principal partner KBR – will showcase the depth of talent in Australia’s defence industry while affirming its essential role in supporting national security and driving innovation, economic growth and workforce development.

Recognising leading professionals and organisations, the awards cover 30+ categories focusing on all facets of the defence industry.

Categories cover primes, SMEs, academic institutions and associations through to high-performing individuals such as defence executives, Indigenous and female leaders, students, scientists, technicians and academics.

According to Phillip Tarrant, director at Defence Connect, the program has been created to reflect the comprehensive role of defence industry as a fundamental input to capability.

“Defence businesses and professionals play a critical role in equipping Australia’s ADF with the platforms, capabilities and services required to ensure battlefield superiority and underpin Australia’s sovereignty,” Tarrant said.

“The awards program will highlight the businesses and individuals who lead their fields. Our objective in creating the awards is to back defence industry and the great work it’s doing to deepen the capabilities of the ADF and better equip our service men and women – now and in the future.”

In less than 24 hours from the award’s launch on Wednesday, 4 June, over 200 nominations have been received.

“The speed the program has gathered pace reaffirms the opportunity to create a nationwide awards program that universally recognises defence industry. The awards are open to all businesses operating in Australia supporting the defence supply chain irrespective of location, alliances, ownership or association membership,” Tarrant said.

“I encourage all defence businesses and professionals to nominate for the awards. Recognition will not only help you stand out in a competitive field and highlight your experience delivering high-level defence programs, you’ll also gain acknowledgment for your contribution to strengthening Australia’s national security.

“Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this ground-breaking initiative and put your peers, colleagues or yourself forward for these coveted accolades.”
