The jammer, which weighs less than two kilograms, is designed to provide a "safe countermeasure against a wide range of drone models" and "allows for a controlled management of drone payload such as explosives, with no damage to common drones models or surrounding environment due to the drones generally responding via a vertical controlled landing on the spot, or returning back to the starting point (assisting to track the operator), with an immediate cease of video back to the drone pilot".
The DroneGun MKIII has an effective range of 500 metres, and can be used in combination with other DroneShield products, such as the DroneSentinel stationary multi-sensor detection system.
The company also said that the DroneGun MKIII is designed to be an alternative to, rather than a replacement for, the DroneGun Tactical jammer, which has an effective range of one to two kilometres.
Earlier this year, Droneshield's DroneGun, DroneSentry and DroneSentinel were approved for inclusion in the 2019 Australian Military Sales Catalogue, maintained by AMS (Australian Military Sales), a directorate within the Australian government’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group.
“DroneShield is grateful for continued substantial support for its global sales from the Australian government, through its earlier announced Defence Export Strategy," DroneShield CEO Oleg Vornik said at the time.
"Through the Military Sales Catalogue, defence trade show hosting with Team Defence Australia, and the incredible assistance we receive from the Australian embassies globally, we are excited to continue delivering on our strategy of being an Australian headquartered global leader in drone countermeasures.”
The purpose of the Australian Military Sales Catalogue is to inform potential foreign government customers of Australian defence equipment and of Australian defence industry products and services available under international government to government arrangements.
