Optus Stadium in Perth will play host to the inaugural National Defence Industry Skilling and Workforce Summit in November.

Defence Industry Minister Melissa Price said the summit was a key initiative of the Morrison government’s Defence Industry Skilling and STEM Strategy.

“This summit will drive our engagement with industry to grow the future workforce and skills base needed to deliver our $200 billion investment in defence capability,” Minister Price said.

“It will draw together stakeholders from industry, government and the education sector to consider approaches to advance the defence industry skills base.

“The event will be highly interactive, with a focus on working together to support industry skill needs.”

Minister for Skills Michaelia Cash said the event is a perfect example of the vocational education and training sector leading the way in delivering world-class, industry-led skills to build on our nation’s defence and sovereign capabilities.

“This summit is all about ensuring we have the skills that we need to build the workforce of the future,” Minister Cash said.

“Defence is blazing the trail of industry-led, active labour force planning. It is surveying future skills shortages and working in with vocational education and training to co-design learning opportunities to see Australians upskill to fill these upcoming roles.”
