Defence and the Australian National Audit Office will be involved in the hearing, which will be conducted by the joint committee of public accounts and audit
The total budget for the acquisition projects covered in the major projects report is $63 billion, and $39 billion is budgeted for sustainment expenditure across the forward estimates.
The first hearing will examine the 2015-16 Defence Major Projects Report. The committee has conducted inquiries into this report on an annual basis since 2009, and will continue its scrutiny of the reporting on major Defence acquisitions through this public hearing.
The committee will then hold a public hearing into Defence sustainment expenditure. The committee will explore how Defence reports both financial data and descriptive information associated with the sustainment of significant Defence assets or capabilities.
