Australian-based Amaero International, a specialist in metal additive manufacturing for the defence, aerospace and automotive sectors, has appointed former vice president of Boeing David Carbon as aviation adviser to Amaero’s newly established industry advisory board.

Carbon is recognised as a global leading aviation expert in manufacturing, assembly and supply chain management. During his distinguished career with Boeing, Carbon held numerous senior operational roles, and was responsible for some of the most iconic commercial airplane factories in the history of commercial aviation.
He was responsible for leading Seattle Machining and Emergent Operations, the 747 Factory, the Twin Aisle Delivery Centre and the 787 Operation. Carbon also led the 787 (Dreamliner) Program to a number of historic firsts, including world record build rates of 10, 12 and 14 per month and was also operationally responsible for the successful introduction of the 787-10 model.
Carbon will assist Amaero by providing strategic advice on the most appropriate manner in which to engage with senior management and operational staff of major aviation manufacturers.

Commenting on the appointment, Carbon said, "It is with great pleasure I accept the role of industry adviser – aviation, as part of the newly established Amaero industry advisory board.
"I have been working with Amaero over the past three months and have seen first-hand their technical capabilities whilst spending significant time with their highly talented team. I believe that Amaero will find itself at the leading edge of the metal 3D printing sector and I am excited to see their capabilities and expertise implemented through large aviation manufacturers."
Carbon is the first member of Amaero's industry advisory board. The company will appoint a further two industry professionals over the next 12 months, each person will be from one of three major industry disciplines: aviation/aerospace, defence and industrial tooling.

Amaero International is an Australia-based company that manufactures large format complex components in metal with laser-based additive manufacturing processes, commonly known as 3D printing.
Amaero has worked with many of the world’s leading manufacturers of aerospace and defence products in both an R&D and manufacturing capability and has a demonstrated ability to deliver aviation and military specification 3D printed alloy critical operation components.
The company was established with the support of Monash University in 2013 to take advantage of commercial opportunities identified by the Monash Centre for Additive Manufacturing (MCAM). Amaero is co-located with MCAM in Melbourne. It operates two additional facilities in Adelaide, South Australia, and El Segundo, California.
