Australian Business Defence Industry (ABDI) will host a seminar early in the new financial year to coincide with the unveiling of the highly-anticipated Sovereign Industry Capabilities (SIC) framework.

The seminar will be held at the Hyatt Hotel, Canberra on the 27 July.
A number of key influencers involved in the development of the new framework, including Minister of Defence Industry Christopher Pyne and first assistant secretary of defence policy Kate Louis, have been confirmed to speak at the event.
One of a number of key themes to the 2016 Defence White Paper, the concept of sovereign industrial capability, and ensuring access to key assets to protect Australia’s capacity to protect its boundaries and deliver its defence strategy, is critical. To date, the government and policy makers have been reluctant to reveal the actual number or breadth of sovereign capabilities that will be defined as part of the new framework, however indigenous shipbuilding will most likely feature.
The transition to a new SIC framework has received significant airplay in defence, with both primes and SMEs anxious to understand the opportunities and ramifications for their businesses.
According to ABDI, the seminar will cover critical areas including contemporary strategic developments and the potential impact on sovereignty, outline the new capability assessment framework, cover innovation in sovereign industrial capabilities, plus the impact on industry.
