BAE Systems Australia welcomed 71 graduates to its national defence and security business, bringing the total of graduates in the business at any one time to more than 150.

Each graduate will spend two years with the company, working across a range of specialist roles in different business and engineering functions, and this year’s graduates will have four placements that will see them working on critically important defence projects across Australia.
Underpinning the drive for new talent is the $1 billion upgrade of the Jindalee Operational Radar Network and the $35 billion Hunter Class frigate program, together with the company’s maritime and aircraft sustainment businesses.
BAE Systems chief executive Gabby Costigan welcomed the new graduates: "Our graduate program is critical in developing potential future leaders within our business and elsewhere in the defence industry."
The 71 graduates will be based around the nation, across the states and territories, including:
- South Australia (32);
- Victoria (20);
- NSW (12);
- Western Australia (5); and
- the ACT (2).
The graduate program has been running for three years and the business said it is confident in seeking more graduates to join the business in 2021.
"We work with graduates to continuously tailor the program so that it meets their career development and ensures that we have some of the brightest minds developing solutions for the Australian Defence Force," Costigan added.
Eleven of the new graduates secured positions following their participation in the company’s summer internship program. The company’s 2021 graduate program will be open for applications across Australia on 2 March 2020.
