The parliamentary standing committee on public works will hold public hearings in Canberra today to examine three proposed defence projects.

The three proposed projects are:
- The replacement of services and infrastructure at Russell Offices Buildings 5 and 6 in Canberra, currently occupied by the Australian Signals Directorate. The estimated cost of the project is $75.4 million (excluding GST).
- Construction of storage and movement space for the Army’s new LAND 155 enhanced gap crossing capabilities, located at Wallangarra, Lavarack Barracks, Robertson Barracks and the Liverpool Military Area. The estimated cost of the project is $23.4 million (excluding GST).
- Construction of new facilities for the HMAS Moreton naval base in Brisbane. The estimated cost of the project is $15.6 million (excluding GST).
The committee will look at the stated purpose of the proposed work and its suitability for that purpose, the need for the work, the cost-effectiveness of the proposal and the amount of revenue it will produce if the work is revenue producing, and the current and prospective value of the work.
As reported on Defence Connect, the Land 155 infrastructure project will benefit Queensland, NSW and the Northern Territory, with the proposed works set to provide facilities including shelters and concrete paved areas to secure and store new mobile bridging equipment.
"The shelters and pavements being provided for the mobile bridging equipment will ensure protection from the elements, giving the equipment a longer working life," Minister Tehan said.
"The proposed project will deliver new and upgraded facilities and infrastructure at Wallangarra and Townsville in Queensland, Darwin in the Northern Territory and Sydney in NSW."
The parliamentary standing committee on public works is neither involved in the tendering process nor the awarding of contracts. Enquiries on those matters should be addressed to the Department of Defence.
