Retired Major General Maurie McNarn has joined the Rafael Australia team as manager (strategic relationships).

Former chief of Australia’s Defence Intelligence Organisation (DIO), McNarn has acted as the University of Queensland’s executive director (operations) since 2009.

Prior to heading up DIO, McNarn also acted as Commander of Training Command, Australia’s largest registered training organisation. As National Commander of Australian Forces in the Middle East area of operations from July 2002 to June 2003, he led 2300 personnel in air, maritime and land forces across Iraq, the Gulf and Afghanistan. He has also served in Malaysia and Singapore, attachments in the US, as well as Lebanon and Syria, as part of the UN force.

In his new position with Rafael Australia, McNarn will support the company's ongoing strategic marketing activities and co-operation in Australia and will serve as its lead point of contact for ADF and ministerial leadership personnel.

"I am proud to be joining Rafael, a leading global defence company, with ground-breaking technologies and combat-proven, state-of-the-art systems", said McNarn. "I am encouraged by Rafael's special commitment to the Australian military, our economy and particularly sovereign capability with Australia’s Varley Group, and I look forward to advancing its objective of delivering cutting-edge capabilities and technology transfer to the ADF."

Ido Spitzer, Rafael Australia's general manager, said that he was delighted to have McNarn on board. "I am confident that the General's proven track record, and high esteem within the Australian defence community, will play an important part in the company's efforts in Australia.

"MAJGEN McNarn will allow us to further deliver the clear message that operationally proven technology powered by Rafael Australia, will be delivered in Australia, by Australians, to the benefit of the ADF and Australian sovereign capability."
