Naval Group subcontracts data centre operations

Naval Group Australia has awarded an almost $1 million contract to leading Adelaide-based data centre operator YourDC, in what the company called a “further boost to the local economy”.

Based out of the city’s northern suburbs, YourDC offers multiple carrier-neutral sites with true north/south geographic diversity.

In recent days, Naval Group has revealed that the company will construct and deliver a secure, dedicated data centre space that will house NGA’s sensitive computer systems associated with the Attack Class build.

Though just a fraction of the $80 billion earmarked for the build over the program’s life cycle, the news ties into concerns flagged earlier this year regarding local industry content commitments, and tensions between those commitments and sovereign industrial capability.

Naval Group Australia CEO John Davis said that the selection of YourDC as preferred data centre provider followed a competitive Request for Proposal process.

“Naval Group Australia is focused on creating local jobs and benefiting local businesses as we deliver the Attack Class submarines,” said Mr Davis.

“As a local business, YourDC will play a critical role in supporting Naval Group Australia as our workforce rapidly increases and our facilities expand.

“This contract further demonstrates Naval Group’s commitment to maximising Australian industry capability across the Future Submarine Program.”

On his part, YourDC CEO Scott Hicks said that as a key supplier to Australian defence projects, YourDC was excited to be awarded this key contract.

“As an Australian-owned and operated company, YourDC is excited to welcome Naval Group to the state’s largest digital ecosystem of cloud and IT providers,’’ said Mr Hicks.

“We are committed to delivering world-class security, connectivity and premium performance and look forward to an ongoing partnership fostering growth and digital transformation for the defence industry.”
