With a little over a month before the 2020 Australian Defence Industry Awards is hosted in partnership with KBR, Defence Connect can reveal the first round of finalists, following fierce competition from an overwhelming response from across the breadth of Australia’s defence industrial base.
Recognising people and businesses, rather than products and platforms, the Australian Defence Industry Awards universally acknowledges all defence industry stakeholders – from primes, SMEs, academic institutions and associations, through to high-performing individuals such as defence executives, Indigenous and female leaders, students, scientists, technicians and academics.
Phillip Tarrant, director at Defence and Aerospace, welcomed the response to the Defence Connect Australian Defence Industry Awards, saying, “The defence industry has once again got right behind the awards, with over 270 finalists shortlisted from over 500 submissions representing over 150 companies.”
This first round of finalists brings together a number of hotly contested categories, including:
- Aerospace Business of the Year
- Land Business of the Year
- Naval Business of the Year
- Space Business of the Year

The Defence Connect Australian Defence Industry Awards program was created to reflect the comprehensive role of the defence industry as a fundamental input to Australia’s capability.
“This is an extraordinary vote of confidence for Australia’s defence industry and representative of the depth of talent we have in our sector. I would like to thank each of the entrants for their submissions and wish all the finalists the best of luck,” Mr Tarrant said.
The awards is open to all businesses operating in Australia supporting the defence supply chain and has become a coveted accolade for organisations and professionals seeking to forge their role in the defence industry.
The event will be held on 26 November 2020. For further information or to register your interest, please head to the website, contact +61 2 9922 3300 or email Defence Connect here.
