Sandy Macdonald will serve an additional three-year term as chair of Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) board, after being reappointed by the federal government.
Since joining the DHA board in 2008, the former National Party senator has served four terms on the board, including two terms as chair.
According to the government, Macdonald’s appointment offers stability, and would enable the DHA to implement “key strategic reforms” in a “complex and challenging economic environment”.
The government has also announced the appointment of former Labor MP Gai Brodtmann as a commercial member, for a three-year term, commencing on 12 February 2021.
Brodtmann has previously served as shadow assistant minister for cyber security and defence, and shadow parliamentary secretary for defence.
The new appointee has also managed her own business consulting to clients, including the Property Council of Australia and the Department of Defence, and has previously held roles in the public service across the Foreign Affairs and Attorney-General’s portfolios.
Brodtmann currently serves on the boards of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Council, Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, Sapien Cyber Advisory Board and Endometriosis Australia.
The DHA provides housing and related services to Defence personnel and their families through active investment in the residential property markets — acquiring and developing land, constructing new housing, and purchasing existing dwellings.
