The defence technology company has commenced the initial phase of the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Melbourne, as part of a broader plan to strengthen its local capability.

Moog Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of global defence technology firm Moog Inc, has commenced work on the initial phase of a five-year investment plan to boost local capability.

The initial phase, expected to be completed by March 2021, involves the expansion of its facility in Melbourne in a secure space designed to support the three defence domains of air, land and sea.

According to Moog, the new facility will have the capacity to house 40 additional engineering, technical and support resources, enabling the firm to develop local capabilities to design, build, and support through-life defence systems and solutions.

“This new facility will accommodate our expected future growth over the next three years,” Bryan O’Connor, managing director of Moog Australia, said.

“The secure facility will be dedicated to continued support of the defence and aerospace markets, providing the foundation to develop and deliver localised intellectual property and production of advanced systems and products across the air, land, and sea domains in the Australia and Asia-Pacific.”

Moog added that the expansion of its facility is further evidence of its ongoing commitment to supporting Australian sovereign capability and creating local jobs to bolster defence manufacturing and sustainment capability in support of the ADF’s platforms.

Moog also expects its investment to facilitate its expansion into the Asia-Pacific region, in line with the federal government’s defence export strategy.
