The Western Australian Industry and Export Awards 2017 are now open for applications, with a new category, Defence Exporter, dedicated to highlighting the expertise of the state's defence industry.
Now in its 29th year, the awards recognise exporters' contribution to the economy and the achievements of WA's industry and exporters across a diverse market sector.
State winners automatically qualify for the prestigious National Export Awards on 5 December.
WA’s Minister for Defence Issues Paul Papalia said the new award will finally recognise the work done by WA businesses and their contribution to the global market.
"The Defence Exporter Award is a new category this year to highlight successful WA defence companies as they demonstrate their capability and participate in defence exports,” Minister Papalia said.
"Many local businesses are already recognised by global markets and it's important to highlight their participation."
Along with the new award, WA has recently established a new office, Defence West, to advocate for national defence projects.
The government are also looking to establish a defence advocate, much like NSW, South Australia and Victoria have done.
Applications for the award close 4 August 2017. For more information, visit http://www.exportaward.com.au/wa
