Raytheon Australia has partnered with the University of South Australia (UniSA) to offer a scholarship to a veteran pursuing an education through the university’s Veterans’ Engagement and Education Program (VEEP).
VEEP was established in recognition of the challenges faced by veterans and their families, supporting 125 eligible students registered nationally.
UniSA director, defence and space, Matt Opie said VEEP aims to encourage former ADF personnel to pursue a tertiary education in a bid to enhance post-service employment opportunities.
“The program is open to students enrolled at UniSA who are veterans, serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members, first responders, and family members,” Opie said.
Raytheon Australia has welcomed the opportunity to fund a VEEP scholarship as part of its broader support offering for veterans and their families.
“Over the last two decades, Raytheon Australia has supported the military community through many initiatives as they transition from active service to the civilian workforce,” Raytheon Australia managing director Michael Ward said.
“Our partnership with UniSA and VEEP is an extension of our commitment to the military community, offering them support and assistance during the transition to a new career.”
Georgia Dennis, a second-year student studying a Bachelor of Public Health, has been named as the inaugural recipient of the Raytheon scholarship.
“My husband is currently serving in the Royal Australian Navy, which has meant I have needed to be resilient and flexible within both my personal and work life,” Dennis said.
“I have connected with other defence families through the Military Wives Choir and Soldier On and have enjoyed volunteering within other defence family organisations.
“The Raytheon Australia VEEP scholarship will help me complete my degree so I can pursue a career in health promotion and education.”
Raytheon Australia congratulated the inaugural recipient and thanked Dennis for her broader contribution to the Defence community.
“We congratulate Georgia on being the inaugural recipient of the Raytheon Australia VEEP scholarship,” Ward added.
“Despite multiple inter-state moves, Georgia has remained focused on her education and Raytheon Australia is pleased to be able to support Georgia through her studies.
“We also thank Georgia for her volunteering efforts within defence family organisations, which play an important role in the lives of serving ADF members and their families.”
