Defence industry stakeholders are now invited to register for the Defence Connect AIC Summit 2021, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 25 August at Gandel Hall, NGA in Canberra.
The inaugural summit aims to support the Commonwealth government’s ongoing efforts to build the nation’s sovereign production, defence capability and resilience by equipping businesses with the knowledge and tools to tap into $270 billion in Defence contracts over the next decade.
The AIC Summit 2021 will feature presentations from a host of industry leaders, designed to help interested stakeholders manage the costs and complexities associated with participating in the supply chain.
Sponsored by principal partner Saab Australia, and platinum partners archTIS, Downer and Nova Systems, the summit also aims to foster collaboration between the Commonwealth, primes and SMEs, in a bid to offer insight into technical challenges and nuances across the supply chain.
Ultimately, the AIC Summit 2021 endeavours to provide businesses with a cutting edge in the highly-competitive tender process.
The agenda includes networking sessions, expert panel and Q&A presentations, and complimentary lunch and drinks.
Speakers include:
- Rear Admiral Wendy Malcolm CSM, head of the Royal Australian Navy’s Maritime Systems Division;
- Martin Halloran, head of AIC at the Capability Acquisition & Sustainment Group (CASG);
- Dr Peter Sawczak, first assistant secretary, Defence Industry Policy Division at the Australian Department of Defence; and
- archTIS CEO and managing director Daniel Lai.
Saab Australia managing director Andy Keough said the firm was proud to join Defence Connect as principal partner.
“A robust local defence supply chain is vital in delivering an enduring sovereign capability, quality local production and resilience in the defence of our national interests,” he said.
“Assisting local businesses to understand how to maximise their opportunities for integration in the nation’s defence supply chain is key in gaining and sustaining their contributions.
“The government’s record $270 billion investment into Australia’s defence capability is delivering exciting opportunities for further collaboration between the Commonwealth, defence Primes and quality local companies.”
Keough said Saab Australia is supporting the development of AIC by prioritising the expansion of more than 300 local companies engaged in the company’s defence supply chain.
“We look forward to the summit providing valuable insights and opportunities for those companies seeking to enter or expand their presence in Australia’s defence industry,” he added.
Numbers for the lunch are limited in line with COVID restrictions, with those hoping to secure a seat required to move quickly.
A waitlist has been set up on a first-come, first-serve basis.
