The Soldier On Pledge partnership aims to provide employment pathways for veterans and their families transitioning from the Australian Defence Force into civilian life.
Organisations that sign the Pledge commit to learning more about the skills and attributes that Defence personnel, veterans and family members can bring to their businesses.
As the latest company to sign the Soldier On Gold Pledge, Varley Group joins more than 100 veteran-supportive companies working in partnership with Soldier On to enable veterans and their families to thrive.
According to Jeff Phillips, Varley Group managing director, signing the Soldier On Pledge has formalised the company's commitment to support the defence community and has fostered another opportunity for the Varley Group to give back to those who have served the nation.
“With defence bases locate in close proximity to all Varley Group sites, utilising the high value skill sets of our veterans is not only a benefit to business, it helps eliminate the under employment of those who have given so much,” Phillips said.
Established in 1886, Varley Group now comprises of engineering facilities at Tomago, Carrington and Sydney in NSW, Narangba in Queensland and its entities Norship in Cairns and Darwin, SEM Fire & Rescue in Ballarat, and IDES in Melbourne.
Varley Group and Norship are also committed pledge partners to the Prime Minister's Veterans' Employment Commitment, added Jan Dobbie, Varley Group HR manager.
"We view this opportunity to join with Soldier On as a further enhancement to attract veterans to our family company for employment opportunities,” Dobbie said.
The Pledge is designed to recognise the exemplary skills, leadership and training of those who have served Australia and has given organisations the opportunity to thank Australian Defence Force personnel for their service by providing meaningful employment post service.
Varley Group is a welcomed addition to the Soldier On Pledge, said Ivan Slavich, Soldier On CEO.
“Soldier On is thrilled to have Varley Group join the Pledge," Slavich said.
"In signing the Pledge, Varley Group commits to understanding the needs of the veteran community, recognizing the impact that service has on the whole defence family, and doing what they can to support them in securing their futures. We look forward to working with Varley Group to provide greater opportunities to our serving and ex-serving veterans and their families.
“For every organisation that signs the Pledge, we are one step closer to enabling more veterans and their families to secure their future.”
