The United States Department of State has ratified a bumper military sale to the government of Kuwait, which includes 517 heavy vehicles at an estimated US$445 million, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
According to a release, the sale will support one of the US’ most important non-NATO allies and will support the ongoing peace process in the Middle East.
As part of the deal, the US will supply 188 Guided Missile Transporter Trucks, 100 HEMTT Fuel Tanker Trucks, 50 Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) Trucks among other logistical heavy vehicles, equipment and spare parts. The HEMTT and Palletized Load Systems as part of the sale are capable of transporting the country’s M1A2 tanks as well as their new fleet of M1A2K tanks, adding to Kuwait’s warfighting capabilities.
It is hoped that the recent order will help Kuwait defend their interests in the region by bolstering the nation’s Land Force Support Command.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has outlined that the prime contractor is expected to be Oshkosh Defense, with Fontaine Trailers and Etnyre acting as subcontractors for the sale. The sale is expected to last for up to five years.
