Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price welcomed the new scholarships, noting that diversity in the STEM workforce will support the ongoing development of the talent pipeline available to defence.
According to Defence, seven of the 17 previous scholarship recipients participated in Defence STEM Cadetships, with four now working for Defence.
"Clearly these scholarships are helping facilitate greater engagement from women across Australia with Defence," Minister Price said.
"We are enabling the best talent to successfully complete their degrees and ensuring the workforce of the future is secured."
The scholarship program now includes the inaugural Leisa Condie Defence Women in STEM Undergraduate Scholarship, named after Leisa Condie who undertook significant research in cryptology and high performance computing with both Defence and the Australian Signals Directorate.
The recipient of the inaugural scholarship was Edith Cowan student Hannah Rice.
