BAE Systems Australia confirmed that the company had appointed Adam Watson as director of Red Ochre Labs, overseeing the company’s innovation and sovereign capability growth.

As director of Red Ochre Labs, the company outlined that Watson is expected to oversee the development of research into autonomy, high speed weapons, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, electronic warfare and intelligent sustainment.
According to a release from BAE Systems Australia, Red Ochre Labs were established as a hub to support ongoing collaboration between industry, defence and academia.
Prior to joining BAE Systems Australia in 2009, Watson formerly served in the Australian Army before beginning his career in the private sector leading major international business development campaigns.
Andrew Gresham, managing director defence delivery at BAE Systems Australia, welcomed Watson’s new appointment.
“I am delighted that Adam will lead Red Ochre Labs and step up our efforts on the development of new sovereign capabilities for the Australian Defence Force,” Gresham outlined.
"Now more than ever, the investment in and development of Australian made technologies has the potential to underpin much needed economic growth and meet the technological needs of our defence force.”
Watson outlined that he was exited to further BAE System Australia’s innovative capabilities.
“I am really looking forward to Red Ochre Labs continuing to lead the development and production of new globally disruptive technologies, building collaborative relationships and partnerships that push the boundaries of capability that we can deliver for our soldiers, sailors and aviators,” he said.
