Canadian company Calian signs training contract with French defence force

Canada’s Calian Group has entered into training contract with the French Ministry of Defence Land Forces to support France’s troop readiness.

Canada’s Calian Group has entered into training contract with the French Ministry of Defence Land Forces to support France’s troop readiness.

Technology, health, IT and cyber security specialists Calian Group confirmed that the company has signed an agreement with the French Ministry for Defence Land Forces to support the readiness of 60,000 French troops, delivering scenario and exercise scripting for the nation's 2022-2023 defence exercises.

According to the release, the company was selected due to its track record in delivering complex training and minimising time to competency, with the company expected to support the upcoming Exercise HEMEX ORION 2023, which was designed to refine the war fighting readiness of French troops through enhanced training combat formations and simulating high-intensity situations.

“Calian specialises in simulating high-intensity situations such as these and will produce a four-phase program, linked to a common scenario, culminating in a land-based exercise that combines simulated and real manoeuvres. During this land-based exercise, participants from Rapid Reaction Corps-France (HQ RRC-FR) will practice newly acquired skills on French terrain in real-time,” a company release read.

The HQ RRC-FR is currently staffed with 450 personnel, including representatives from 12 EU and NATO nations.

“The more realistic a training exercise, the greater the participant readiness. Our expertise in enhancing the realism of exercises like these means participants from across the French Armed Forces and NATO will leave prepared to face conventional and non-conventional forces,” Chesney Clark, managing director of Cadence, a Calian company, said.

Calian trainers will not only develop exercises, but also undertake strategic planning and problem solving, using subject matter experts to ensure the realism of the scenarios.

The contract began in 2021 and is expected to run until May 2023.
