Data to Decisions Cooperative Research Centre (D2D CRC) has launched its first spin off company, Fivecast, which is looking to provide technology with automatic forecasting capacity for national security agencies.

The technology powering Fivecast has evolved from the D2D CRC’s Beat the News project, which commenced in 2015 with the aim to build an automatic forecasting capacity for law enforcement and national security agencies.
D2D CRC collaborated with Adelaide University, University of South Australia and law enforcement and national security agencies to create its new technology.
D2D CRC's chief executive Sanjay Mazumdar said the launch of Fivecast will advanced the capabilities of national security and cyber security agencies, along with those in the corporate world.
"The D2D CRC is very proud and excited to launch Fivecast. This technology start-up will advance the event forecasting technologies developed in the CRC’s Beat the News project to capture market opportunities in national security and other markets, such as cyber security and corporate risk protection," said Mazumdar.
"The ability to create the Fivecast company in such a short timeframe is a testament to the focus and drive of the D2D CRC team and the support of our CRC partners."
D2D CRC said Fivecast is able to is able to automatically and accurately predict the occurrence of future population-level events such as social disruption, political crises, election outcomes and disease outbreak, something that is currently a manual process for analysts that cannot always capture volume, velocity and relevance of risk information contained in data.
D2D CRC and a team from the University of South Australia recently created two new visualisations for the Department of Defence and other government agencies.
D2D CRC is based in Adelaide and is managed by three executives and governed by a board of six independent non-executive directors.
