EOS Defence Systems, Electro Optic Systems’ Singaporean subsidiary, confirmed acceptance of the first remote weapons station (RWS) by the Thai military, following the successful integration of the EOS R400S-Mk2-HD RWS with Mirem Robotic’s THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle.

The capability was later approved by Thailand’s Defence Technology Institute, with the vehicle now scheduled for test and evaluation by the Royal Thai Army.

“This is an important milestone for EOS. We are delighted to attain the successful acceptance of EOS Remote Weapon Station by the DTI Acceptance Team, of which the performance and ease of operation was noteworthy. We will continue to support DTI in their endeavour to publicise the RCV capabilities to the end-user community,” Henry Heng, president for the Asia-Pacific region, said.

According to EOS, the R400S-Mk2-HD RWS was designed as a “plug and play” system, which can be integrated with a range of weapons capabilities and is integrated with a 30mm Northrop Grumman M230LF cannon. It is in use within nine countries across the globe.

Some 2,030 systems have been delivered.

Just last year, EOS Defence Systems celebrated their ten year anniversary.

The company was established to support the sale and subsequent sustainment of its R600 remote weapon station (RWS) to the Singapore Army.

This was the first dual-weapon station produced by EOS and is mounted on the ST Engineering Land Systems Terrex 8x8 infantry fighting vehicle.

EOS is proud of the long and successful relationship it has with the Singaporean Armed Forces and government, Grant Sanderson, CEO of EOS Defence Systems said.

"Being based in the region has enabled us to draw on the best of local talent to build our team and to extend our footprint across all of Asia," he said.

Inaugurated by the then Australian high commissioner to Singapore Philip Green, the facility was one of the most advanced of its kind ever deployed in Asia.

Winning the Singapore tender paved the way for a greater presence in the Asia Pacific market. In 2013, ST Kinetics and EOS set up a joint RWS maintenance and support facility.

EOS Singapore has grown from the original three employees in a joint facility to today having nine employees in their own facility.

Since EOS Singapore Defence Systems began operations, Heng has led the company for over a decade.

"EOS is a company that will create a solid legacy, and I am truly honoured to be part of that legacy," he said

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the past 10 years with EOS, and I am enthusiastic about the future about the company.

"EOS Singapore would like to extend our deepest gratitude towards everyone who has helped us along the way during these 10 years and we look forward to many more exciting years ahead.”

The office not only has responsibility for sustaining the EOS RWS in-service with the Singaporean Army, but is also now the hub for all EOS business development in the Asia Pacific.
