Saab has been tasked with supporting the US Marine Corps Force on Force Training Systems - Next (FoFTS-Next) program, winning a US$122 million ($167.2 million) deal to deliver a deployable, live training capability.
The contract modification — with options to increase the potential total contract value to US$248 million ($340 million) — includes the supply of equipment for individual Marine weapons and vehicles, logistics, maintenance, and training exercise support.
As part of the FoFTS-Next program, US Marine Corps Training Instrumentation Systems (MCTIS) equipment for up to 10 battalion training sets would be delivered, with the support operations at a number of Marine Corps Installations also set to be established.
“The deployable and expeditionary MCTIS capability is an advanced training solution that will ensure Marines train and learn in the most realistic environment,” Erik Smith, president and CEO of Saab in the US, said.
“The system will enhance Marines’ performance and survivability on the battlefield by developing and reinforcing proper tactics, techniques, and procedures. Saab is proud to be the US Marine Corps training partner for the next generation of Marine warfighters.”
The expeditionary MCTIS capability is built to be fully interoperable with the land forces training of more than 30 NATO and partner nations.
This is Saab’s latest Indo-Pacific defence contract, with the firm recently securing a number orders in the region.
This includes a deal to deliver AT4 anti-tank system to the Indian Armed Forces following a competitive tender process for a single-shot weapon.
The contract – signed by FFV Ordnance AB, responsible for Saab’s Ground Combat offer in India – includes the provision of the AT4CS AST variant, which can be fired from confined spaces over an effective range of approximately 200 metres.
Saab Australia also recently secured funding to expand its local operations from its Adelaide headquarters.
The company was awarded a $22.6 million grant via the latest round of the Commonwealth government’s Modern Manufacturing Initiative.
This is in addition to Saab’s own $55 million investment, helping to increase the size of the current Adelaide facility by up to 80 per cent over an 18-month construction timeframe.
