Leidos wins US Navy undersea warfare contract

The global defence contractor has been selected to lead a US Navy project to enhance the service’s undersea warfare capability.

The global defence contractor has been selected to lead a US Navy project to enhance the service’s undersea warfare capability.

Leidos has received a single-award, Seaport Next Generation (NxG) task order from the US Navy’s Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) to support undersea warfare systems.

The prime contract, worth approximately US$84 million ($113 million), includes a one-year base period, as well as four one-year options. Work will be performed in Virginia and Japan.

As part of the contract, Leidos is expected to provide operations and maintenance (O&M) crews aboard United States Naval Ship (USNS) Tactical Auxiliary General Ocean Surveillance (T-AGOS) platforms and contract vessels.

Leidos has also been tasked with providing a cadre of Field Support Team (FST) engineers to provide engineering, logistics and technical support to the Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS) fleet and IUSS (Integrated Undersea Surveillance System) Operations Support Center (IOSC).

"Ensuring our sailors have the most advanced capabilities to defeat advancing threats is a top priority for our company," Will Johnson, Leidos senior vice president, logistics and mission support, said.

"We look forward to continuing our longstanding support of the Program Executive Office Undersea Warfare Systems as they work to keep the seas open and free."

The latest contract secured by Leidos across its global network, which includes a number of defence projects in Australia.

Last December, Lockheed Martin Australia (LMA) and Leidos Australia signed a teaming agreement, which will see the firms jointly design, develop and build advanced secure technologies under the Royal Australian Air Force’s Joint Air Battle Management Systems Project (AIR 6500-1).

As part of the collaboration, LMA – which is one of two primes selected to participate in the final competitive phase of AIR 6500 Phase 1 Project – will work alongside Leidos Australia to develop capabilities that can be integrated into an open architecture framework, supporting application development for the project.

Specifically, the companies will investigate transformative software factory technologies, enhanced by a number of features, including secure coding, advanced cyber security infrastructure, automated monitoring, continuous deployment, network optimisation and testing.
