Babcock Australasia has launched their two-year graduate program, giving graduates a pathway into the defence and aviation sectors across a range of roles including engineering, project management, finance, human resources and IT.
The program is designed to enable young professionals to apply their expertise in a work environment while engaging with industry leaders.
Currently, the program is seeking applications from those who have studied naval architecture, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, electronics, project management, business, marketing, commerce, HR and software.
Babcock’s executive director, engineering and technology, Brad Yelland welcomed the announcement, noting that it is essential to help build Australia’s future STEM workforce.
“We are focused on providing Future Talent pathways for graduates, work experience students, interns and apprentices through our Early Careers programs,” Yelland said.
“We’re looking to the future of our operations and by nurturing budding talent, we’ll be exposed to new techniques that will support our planning.
“While we’re recognised as one of Australia’s leading aviation and defence businesses, due to the breadth of work we undertake, the opportunities available aren’t limited to STEM graduates. Graduate roles will integrate with departments across Babcock including engineering, human resources, finance and strategy.
“Graduates are currently entering one of the most competitive job markets in history. In order to be recognised for their study and hard work, they need to have access to competitive entry-level opportunities.
“Our program allows for graduates to be mentored by industry experts and leads to true career outcomes. Upon completion, participants will remain employed with Babcock.
“Recruiting new talent is important for not only broadening our resource pool, it also expands diversity of thought within our business to inspire and reflect the communities in which we operate,” Yelland concluded.
The program is scheduled to begin in November 2022, with the positions available in Adelaide, Sydney, Perth and Auckland.
The company further confirmed the launch of their inaugural 13-week paid internship in Australia while scheduled to wrap up in February 2023. It is hoped that the internship will provide a springboard into their competitive graduate program.
The company also aims to support Australia's future STEM workforce with placements for secondary school students, STEM activities and mentoring to support the next generation of STEM professionals.
