Lockheed Martin Australia has announced the launch of its inaugural Military Veterans Employee Resource Group (MilVet ERG), established to support recruitment, development, sustainment, inclusion, empowerment and retainment of Australia’s veteran community.
The program aims to increase awareness of veteran-related events, while also endeavouring to improve the employee value proposition for veterans via a strong professional network.
MilVet ERG, developed by LMA’s own veteran cohort, is underpinned by three key pillars — data, people, and networks.
Specifically:
- Strong data tools and analysis aim to drive HR strategies.
- Learning opportunities aim to develop employee understanding of diversity and inclusion and its importance at Lockheed Martin.
- Networks aim to be cultivated to increase veteran workforce social capital and provide meaningful career opportunities to ensure long-term career success within defence industry.
Lockheed Martin Australia chief executive Warren McDonald AO, CSC, said the program is a reflection of the company’s commitment to the veteran community, with veterans making up 22 per cent of LMA’s 1,200 local workforce.
“Having served more than 40 years with the Royal Australian Air Force, I am proud to launch a program that both supports and strengthens our veteran workforce,” he said.
“At Lockheed Martin Australia, we rely on our veterans’ skills and experience to develop innovative and credible solutions to advance critical capabilities our customers need to remain ahead of their adversaries and defend the national interests.”
Victoria Cross recipient, Keith Payne VC, AM, welcomed the program.
“Lockheed Martin Australia’s MilVet ERG is an invaluable program,” he said.
“Veteran participation in and employment pathways into defence industry is an important component to supporting former service men and women as they make the journey to civilian life.”
Rick Meehan OAM, chairman of the Keith Payne VC Veterans Benefit Group, welcomed the opportunity to work alongside Lockheed Martin Australia.
“Together, we share a resolute commitment to supporting and connecting veterans, and this program strongly aligns with the values and goals of our organisation,” Meehan said.
