Representatives from the ADF and Saab Australia have visited BlueZone Group’s facility in Newcastle for the formal signing of an ASW target system support contract.

BlueZone Group has welcomed representatives from the Australian Defence Force and Saab Australia to its facility in Newcastle, where it has formally signed a contract to manage operations, maintenance and repair for the Royal Australian Navy’s Saab-built AUV62-AT Intermediate Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Target.

The AUV62-AT is designed to provide a cost-effective and realistic alternative to the use of submarines for training, with the active and passive target allowing real data analysis for planning and post-exercises.

BlueZone is expected to leverage its experience support other key systems, including the Double Eagle Remotely Operated Vehicle, Boeing Liquid Robotics Wave Glider and HII Hydroid REMUS.

ASW is expected to be a key capability in the future Navy fleet with the number of submarines in the Indian Ocean predicted to increase significantly in the next five to 10 years.
