The prime has been tapped to provide life-cycle sustainment support for NATO’s surveillance platforms.

Northrop Grumman’s five-year, multimillion-dollar contract from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) involves the delivery of sustainment services to the NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) Force (NAGSF).
This includes maintenance and life cycle sustainment of NATO’s fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles, air vehicle mission command and control stations, and trainers.
Northrop is set to undertake repairs, onsite maintenance and operations support to NAGSF at Sigonella Air Base in Italy.
Meanwhile, the US-based team is expected to provide program management, software sustainment, configuration management and technical support — including sustaining engineering, technical documentation updates, integrated logistics support data analysis, reach back, airworthiness and system design responsibilities.
“We have a long legacy of partnering with the NATO AGS Force,” Kenn Todorov, sector vice president, global sustainment and modernisation at Northrop Grumman, said.
“We will continue to deliver capabilities and services that optimise aircraft availability and fleet readiness while supporting the uninterrupted execution of the Alliance’s mission of persistent regional defence and deterrence.”
NSPA general manager Peter Dohmen welcomed the award, which he said marks a major milestone towards the in-service support phase of the NATO AGS Core System.
“It will enable NSPA, in its role as life cycle manager of the system, to sustain this key capability on behalf of the Alliance,” Dohmen added.
The NATO AGS system of systems, which has achieved initial operating capability, comprises five RQ-4D aircraft (based on Northrop Grumman’s wide area surveillance Global Hawk), ground and support segments, and advanced sensor technologies.
The platforms are designed to provide advanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability, while also supporting a range of mission types, including protection of ground troops and civilian populations, border control, crisis management and humanitarian assistance in natural disasters.
Northrop Grumman also delivers flight mission planning, spares and post design services to NAGSF.
