A group of Royal Australian Air Force and public service graduates have completed the first ASR-NG Radar course at RAAF Base Amberley, delivered by HENSOLDT Australia as part of its contribution to the AIR5431 Phase 2 project.
The five-week course aimed to equip selected air traffic control radar specialists with the knowledge and skills to maintain the nine ASR-NG Fixed Defence Air Traffic Control Surveillance Radars to be delivered to the RAAF by HENSOLDT Sensors GmbH.
This was the first of nine initial five-week ASR-NG Radar courses to be delivered by HENSOLDT Australia, with the company also contracted to subsequently deliver two courses each year for the first five years.
The Operational Maintenance Trainer (OMT), manufactured in Germany by HENSOLDT Sensors, is operated and maintained in Australia by HENSOLDT Australia Pty Ltd, with all other training tools and materials developed locally.
“HENSOLDT takes great pride in playing a major role in the delivery to Defence of this exceptional air traffic control capability and the training of Defence personnel to support the asset in service,” HENSOLDT’s program director Doug Cross said.
In February, HENSOLDT Australia established a new office within the Newcastle Airport aviation precinct, directly adjacent to RAAF Base Williamtown and aerospace precinct, Astra Aerolab.
Housing two permanent staff members and a team of 10 contractors, the new office is positioned to enable HENSOLDT Australia to support local projects at RAAF Base Williamtown.
