Belgium firearms manufacturer Fabrique Nationale Herstal is showcasing three firearms innovations in Germany after recent contract success with the French Army.

FN Herstal will display the new tactical less lethal launcher FN SCAR subcompact carbine and FN Elity weapon-mounted ballistic calculator at the Enforce Tac homeland security trade show, held in Germany from 28 February and 1 March.

The new FN 303 launcher fires non-lethal projectiles using compressed air to temporarily neutralise an individual or group by impact. The company will also offer up a sub-compact FN SCAR SC carbine, FN Five-seveN Mk3 and FN HiPer pistols, as well as FN Evolys ultralight machine guns.

In February this year, FN Herstal announced a deal to supply the French Army with the all-in-one laser ballistic calculators for their snipers and designated marksmen. The device provides tactical data such as wind speed, wind direction, elevation, a digital level, barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, and lead angle with laser rangefinder.

FN Elity devices were mounted on 12.7mm rifles and 7.62mm sniper and precision rifles over several months last year by French Army innovation group Battle-Lab Terre.

Battle-Lab Terre squadron leader Tanguy de Brosse said the first batch of calculators performed well.

“This first project for innovation conducted with the company FN Herstal went particularly well, mostly due to the excellent collaboration between the Battle-Lab Terre and the Belgian manufacturer.

“It ends well since it demonstrates the effectiveness of the system and leads to the acquisition of a first batch that benefits French forces.

“It thus opens the door to further acquisitions for full-service capacity, the terms and timing of which are yet to be defined, and to other collaborations with FN Herstal.”

FN Herstal has stated the ballistic calculator improves the shooter’s performance, reduces “detection-neutralisation” time by 40 per cent, improves shooting accuracy by 25 per cent, and lightens sniper equipment load by six kilos.
