EOS to supply more remote weapon systems for Ukraine

EOS Defence Systems will supply up to 50 remote weapon systems under a contract with Ukraine valued at $61 million.

EOS Defence Systems will supply up to 50 remote weapon systems under a contract with Ukraine valued at $61 million.

The Electro Optic Systems (EOS) defence division will provide ammunition, spares, related services, and the systems during 2023 and 2024 under a second conditional contract, according to a public statement on 26 April.

The company previously announced a contract to supply up to 100 EOS (remote weapon systems) RWS units worth $120 million on 3 April.

RWS can be mounted on a variety of vehicles to allow crew members to operate the system while being protected. Weapons mounted on RWS have previously included 5.56mm, 7.62mm, and 12.7mm machine guns, 30mm lightweight cannon and automatic grenade launcher.

EOS chief executive officer Andreas Schwer said the company will draw upon its support network and supply chain of over 100 suppliers located across Australia, and others internationally.

“EOS is proud to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the people of Ukraine by providing the country with the lifesaving utility of its Remote Weapon System,” he said.

“This will contribute to its critical security and defence needs.”

The EOS remote weapon systems are currently in use with several military services in Australia, North America, Europe, and South-East Asia and have more than 2,500 units sold internationally.

The contract allows for conditional early termination rights in favour of the customer, which is typical in wartime contract arrangements.
