Thomas Global and Global Defence Solutions team up on Boxer CRV Immersive Tactical Trainer Project

Thomas Global Systems has teamed with Global Defence Solutions (GDS) to source locally developed and manufactured components for the Boxer combat reconnaissance vehicle (CRV) Immersive Tactical Trainer (ITT) system under its LAND 400 Phase 2 subcontract with Rheinmetall Defence Australia (RDA).

As part of a strategic partnership, GDS will supply Thomas Global with 13 CSC-compliant 20-foot ISO steel shipping container frames to house turret and driver cabin equipment for RDA’s Boxer CRV simulators.

“The Boxer CRV ITTs we are producing with GDS, and our other Australian industry partners, are the result of work by high-tech, skilled Australians and represent a world-class capability,” Angus Hutchinson, CEO of Thomas Global, said.

Thomas Global is sub-contracted to RDA to design and manufacture major components of the 13 containerised and six classroom ITT sets. The ITT will assist Australian Army Boxer CRV operators in learning the operation of the Boxer CRV and its role in the Land Combat Vehicle System fleet.

“We are proud to be working with GDS to grow sovereign industry capability and high-skilled jobs in Australia and look forward to working with RDA to produce a world-class, Australian designed and manufactured ITT system,” Laurie Koster, GDS managing director, said.

Thomas Global’s proactive and meaningful approach to AIC workshare demonstrates how regional Australia’s defence industrial base is growing with every opportunity to build and sustain a high-tech workforce in support of the nation’s strategic defence objectives.

“We are delighted to have been chosen as a strategic partner by a recognised defence industry leader in complex electronic design solutions."

GDS is an Australian owned company with headquarters in Nowra, NSW. The local Defence SME provides Deployable Force Infrastructure (DFI) to the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces, making GDS a proven force in field support.

According to Stuart Ayres, Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, collaborating to improve defence technology had the potential to enhance our national security and Australia's reputation as a premier destination for defence innovation.

“Through Investment NSW, the NSW government is supporting the growth of a smart and connected defence industry that collaborates to pioneer the research and development of new defence technologies and products, leading the way in terms of industry expertise,” Minister Ayres added.
